STYLE ICON : Emma Wattson Between a huge movie release, a first year of college, and enjoying the last year of being a Emma at behind the scenes of Burberry’s Fall 2009 Mario Testino-shot ad campaign. Emma Watson’s transformation from gawky drama student to fashion’s newest darling has been nothing short of magical. The 19-year-old Brit first caught the world’s attention as Hermione in the hugely successful Harry Potter franchise, but it’s her daring yet sophisticated personal style that sets her apart from the PYT pack. ![]() Emma in 2001 at the start of her career with the Harry Potter Franchise. She’s told Teen Vogue that she opts not to use stylists because “there’s nothing interesting about looking perfect.” Perhaps so, but in the last couple of months she’s been photographed looking all but perfect in fresh-from-the-runway Rodarte and Proenza Schouler, as well as most recently, vintage Ossie Clark. And those red-carpet choices have caught the attention of serious fashion heavyweights. Karl Lagerfeld photographed her as a nun for the French magazine Crash, and these days Watson calls Christopher Bailey snagged her to be the face of the label’s latest campaign, shot by famed photographer Mario Testino. Though she’s signed with London’s Storm modeling agency and is buddy-buddy with the style set, Watson is hoping to be an anonymous Ivy Leaguer stateside at Brown University. Whether or not she manages to ditch the spotlight, there’s no doubt that she absolutely must have the most coveted wardrobe on campus! ![]()

BON BAISERS FROM PARIS…
Unless you have been recently shopping in Paris, you have probably never heard of MAJE. But don’t be surprised if you see it all over the streets of Toronto soon. Attractive brunette with a sharp look, Judith Milgrom is the creative asset of the label MAJE. We owe her a wardrobe that has a feminine and trendy feel for every day and for all occasions. After ten years working alongside her sister, creator of the label Sandro, Judith launches her own label: MAJE, a name that is a mixture of the initials of people who are dear to her. Raised in a family where making things by hand is a “family code,” Judith has developed a pronounced taste for fabrics. “I like for a garment to have a soul, to tell a story.” That is Judith’s motto. “For a long time I refrained from the luxury to propose to women my vision of fashion. Then one day, I […] had to act.” The first three shops opened in Paris in 2000 in the fashionable Saint Germain district and were an instant hit. Each shop resembles an urban boudoir, with a touch of bohemian and chic, where every fashionista can feel at home. Milgrom manages to reintroduce the dress in the dressing room of any beautiful fashion lover. The soft colors (beige, ecru, faded pink, chocolate-brown) and the ethno-chic line of the brand are a big success. She insists that “a dress has to live.” With ten boutiques all over Paris, MAJE is about to celebrate its 10th anniversary. The MAJE style is now adopted by every Parisian fashionista and by many artists, including Vanessa Paradis and Marion Cotillard. A year ago, a line of lingerie was launched: camisole and light boxers along with chic undergarments. MAJE has also developed a line of trendy accessories and a children’s collection. Last winter, the brand decided to dress the urban toddlers. “No doubt that this new line is not going to be a copy-paste of their mums’ wardrobe. The garment has to have a look but he must above all be practical and comfortable.” MAJE now has 490 sales points in 33 countries around the world. All we wish for 2010 is that MAJE finds a way to cross the Atlantic Ocean to embellish our wardrobe.
